Countdown Kyoto

11 days remaining. The Kyoto Protocol will enter into force on 16 February 2005. A collective effort by all the countries of the world. Strike that. Almost all the countries of the world.

Many institutions and organizations have planned special events to mark the inauguration. One such event caught my attention. Representatives of World Council of Churches (WCC), member churches and ecumenical organizations will meet on 15-22 February 2005.

The morning worship on February 16th will include prayers for the Kyoto Protocol. Further, Pacific member churches are planning a prayer, on Sunday 13 February, concerning the Implementation of the Kyoto Protocol.

The irony here is the fact that Evangelists are very much a part of WCC.

Evangelists today are considered the most potent electoral force. They have been primarily responsible for the presidential results. I can only hope and pray that they use their collective force to persuade a green future. Not a green house nemesis.
